School News
September 2018 was the first time in its history that Lawrence Sheriff School had admitted girls to its Sixth Form.

Demand for places was very high and co-education is now firmly established in the school. 20% of students in the Sixth Form are now female.

The school can trace its history back 450 years to Lawrence Sheriff, the chief grocer to Queen Elizabeth I. His bequest, led to the creation of Rugby School and then a little later to the school named after him.

Since that time, Lawrence Sheriff has continued to develop, becoming a highly successful 21st Century School that is judged Outstanding by Ofsted. Department for Education GCSE data has three times ranked LSS as the top performer in the country, whilst an average of
65 - 70% gain A*- B at A level. Girls have regularly come from other centres to take specific A levels, averaging animpressive 80% A*- B at A level.

Results are only one of the reasons why the LSS Sixth Form is so highly rated by both parents and students. A wide variety of extra-curricular activities thrive, ranging from sport to music, drama, World Challenge and a flourishing Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme. Large numbers of trips and expeditions take place, with recent destinations including Sri Lanka, Washington and Paris.

The Sixth Form is housed in a purpose built centre with its own study and catering facilities and a recently built library is housed nearby. Many lessons take place in a suite of rooms specifically designed for Post 16 study.

Headteacher Peter Kent added ‘Our advice to all of our Sixth Formers is be happy and enjoy yourself, but also work hard and achieve your potential. Two of my children were members of the LSS Sixth Form and, as a parent, I have seen at first hand the fantastic care, support and guidance that they received. Both hugely enjoyed the Sixth Form at Lawrence Sheriff and are still in regular contact with the friends that they made during their time at LSS.’
